December Fun

Some other wonderful events happened in December this year that really made it memorable.

We attended a creche exhibit at the church which was really beautiful. There were over 200 creche displays from all over the world. They were so beautiful and the youth from the surrounding area provided a live Nativity show and live music. It was great. The boys and I got our photo taken. Darryl had a military training in Virginia for 2 weeks in December, so he was noticeably absent. I'm glad that the Nativity exhibit is an annual event.

Since we have no snow in December in these parts, our trees finally lost all their leaves, so we did some massive raking. We made a great big pile then the boys and the neighbor kids jumped in and threw the leaves everywhere. It was a fun time.
The Mom's Club of Elk Grove Franklin had a great little Christmas party complete with reindeer food and a visit from Santa. We love the mom's club and the kids had a fun time eating snacks and playing duck duck goose. They even joined in singing some Chistmas songs. Parker didn't want anything to do with Santa, but Tanner tolerated receiving a new book from the nice man. My favorite part was when the moms wanted a photo with Santa so we gave our cameras to the kids and had them take the photos. We got a good laugh from how they all turned out.
I was called as the new Young Women's President for our ward. We attend the Laguna Creek 5th Ward and I am in charge of about 12 young Women. For a fun activity we decided to do International Christmas night. We have several nationalities represented in our ward, so we decided to have people talk about christmas that they celebrated growing up. We heard about South Africa, Korea/Japan, Germany and Mexico. Then we ate tamales and broke a pinata for good luck in the coming year. It was lots of fun and the kids went nuts for the pinata.

One of my favorite Christmas traditions is decorating Christmas cookies. This year we went to the Spjut family's house and the boys decorated several cookies. Tanner really stuck to decorating for a lot longer then he ever has before and the cookies were cute and delicious. Parker lost interest after we ran out of M&M's, but he sure had a good time eating every cookie he could get his hands on.

Tanner got to participate in 2 Christmas programs. The first was at his preschool. He attends the CSD preschool and loves it. For their Christmas program they learned 3 songs to sing, they made antler headbands, and did a book gift exchange. Tanner didn't want anything to do with the singing and pulled the hood of his jacket over his head for the duration of the performance. He loved the book exchange and said when he opened his book, "It's the book I always wanted." He gave the boy who brought the book a big hug and said thank you. I was so impressed by his gratitude.

The other program was during Tanner's gymnastics class. Every year the kids get to demonstrate their skill for all the parents. Tanner is really skilled on all of the equipment and did a great job showing off his jumping abilities on the tumble track. When it came time to do a little stretching show set to the music of "hot chocolate" from the movie Polar Express, Tanner got very embarrassed and went to pout in the corner. From that moment on he couldn't be convinced to continue the demonstration. Performing may not be in the cards for Tanner.

We had such a great Christmas time, but missed Darryl greatly. Next year hopefully Darryl can see all these fun events.
