We celebrated Father's Day for the whole week before the big day. For FHE we made Father's Day cards for the grandpa's and great grandpa's in our life and Tanner had lots of fun coloring and writing in them then putting on as many monkey stickers as he possibly could. I took photos of the boys for the fronts of the cards and they happily posed with their favorite "I Love You" message. 
During the week we talked about Dad and picked out some books to read about dads. Tanner helped me make some "surprises" that he told Darryl all about as soon as he came home from work.On Father's Day we went to church and I took the boys, while Darryl got to attend all the meetings. After church Darryl took a long nap before we went to our friend's home for a Father's Day dinner with lots of other families that are not close to home. We shared funny stories about missions and kids and we enjoyed their company all evening. Darryl went to LA on business this past week for training, so I drove down on Thursday to meet up with him and visit with family we have down there. We stayed with Darryl's wonderful aunt and uncle, the Neilsons. Tanner loved that they had a pool and was bound and determined to get in. The weather wasn't exactly hot, so he got his wetsuit and we headed out to the pool first thing in the morning with cousin Luke. It was funny. I spent more time in the water than Tanner but he sure looked ready.
On Friday Darryl finished early so we picked him up in the city and went to a museum called Kidspace. It is AWESOME! The boys were in heaven. They had an indoor learning area about bugs, dinosaurs, gardens, sea creatures, shells, and animals. They had a 2 story enclosed tower for the kids to climb. Tanner especially liked the "ant hill" where he could climb up thru the ant hill from the basement up to the main floor and come out of a little mound built into another exhibit. Outside they had a bike path for tricycles and a water element. Those were the favorite events of the day. Parker got soaked and Tanner rode everywhere. The boys also explored all over the creek and garden on the back hills. It was hard to pull them away!
Saturday was great. We went to Griffith Park. The Neilsons came and we met up with my cousins the Hansons that were willing to come up from Escondido. We rode the mini train and the ponies. Tanner started on the slow track with the ponies but needed a bigger thrill so he went on the medium speed track twice and loved it. We also found a Carousel so the kids needed a turn on that beauty. I did a little exploring while the kids rode and found the remanents of the old LA zoo. The enclosures for the large animals are still there built into the side of the mountain and the fences have been removed so the kids loved climbing all over the enclosures and exploring the animal caves. The Hansons also have 2 fun little boys so we enjoyed the fun that they brought. We have such deep talks with them about life and politics. It's fun to find people with great informed opinions! We will someday make it down to their house for some fun in San Diego.
After all that fun the boys were exhausted so we brought them home to relax with a babysitter for the evening while we went out to Dinner with the Neilsons. We ate at a beautiful and delicious place called Mi Piace in Pasadena. Then we walked down the boulevard and got fun frozen yogurt with mix ins. They weren't all that delicious but it was fun. The weather was great and we had fun talking about life and books and family. Sunday morning was fun. We went to church then packed up and headed home. The drive home on Sunday was uneventful, but the boys were done in the car after that. We came home to some very hot 102 degree weather so we relaxed all evening and just enjoyed our time together. We love traveling, but it is nice to be home for awhile.
