Tanner finished first grade. His teacher this year was Molly Fry. She was excellent for Tanner and he finished the year with straight A grades and he is reading well above a 1st grade level. We are so proud of his accomplishments. Tanner has also come out of his shy shell. He participates in class and even volunteers to help in primary when someone is needed to give a talk, a scripture or prayer. Outside of school he is excelling at Karate and promoted to green belt. He has a great attitude and he is very active riding his bike, scooter and roller blades. For the end of the year celebration for the 1st grade, all of the classes walked over to Morse Park for a water play day. The kids had a great time playing in the water and the parents prepared a BBQ and Otter pops for all the kids and parents.
Parker finished his first year of Preschool. His teacher was Elizabeth Coleman. She was great for him. He is so musical and creative. She encouraged the kids to sing and play. Parker can now write his name and sing the pledge of allegiance. He also learned a lot about weather, seasons and holidays. He is a smart boy and has recently taken an interest in reading. We are currently working on site words and his memory for them is astonishing. Parker loves to run. He is in a soccer skills class with the parks and rec. He is doing great and he will be ready for a team next summer.Alyssa is a wonderful, tall and busy girl. It has been fun to have her home alone with me on Tuesdays and Thursdays. She and I have been very involved with Mom's Club activities and playgroups. She loves music and dancing. She can shake her shoulders and sing. Her favorite song is, "twinkle, twinkle little star." She can sing all the words. It's adorable. Her language is developing so well. She is easy to understand and she expresses herself very clearly. The funniest thing she quotes is from the movie Despicable Me. She says, "Knocked Over!" and points her fingers like guns. She gives amazing hugs and always wants a piggy back ride. She is as active as the boys if not more. She is even attempting to ride the scooters and you can't keep shoes on her. She loves to be barefoot and outside.
Interpreting finished for the semester. I haven't yet been able to find a nursing job at the hospital. It has been a frustrating search. I haven't had many opportunities to meet hiring managers, so I'm looking now to make some friend connections and network my way into a job. I'm very ready to start working in Maternal health or Pediatrics. I'm hoping for an opportunity to open up soon.
Darryl has had many changes this month. He accepted an offer from Accenture. It is a tech company that builds computer systems for businesses. Their work in this area is with the California State government. Accenture recently started a new contract with 4 state agencies that are combining their systems, so the project will last between 4 and 10 years. Darryl finished at KPMG on May 22nd, and didn't start with Accenture until May 29th, so we slipped a trip to Utah into our Memorial Day weekend plans.
We drove to Utah on Thursday. We made pretty good time and the kids were thrilled to see Nana and Papa. They stayed up late cleaning the pool and wishing they could get in it. On Friday, Darryl and I had a rare opportunity to do some clothes shopping for his new job. We found the Men's Wearhouse Outlet and had a great time finding some new sport coats and business attire for the new job. In the evening we got a chance to attend a reception for Steve's photography that has been displayed at a gallery in the Provo Library. It was a great show and Steve's work is fantastic. I hope he does more.
On Saturday, Darryl and Stephanie (Marshall's wife) ran a 15K race in Midway. The weather was perfect and the altitude only slowed Darryl a fraction. We came up to catch the finish of the race and congratulate the runners. I was super excited to find Aimee Lohner running the race. She is an old friend from my dancing days. It was wonderful to catch up with her. After the race we got shakes at Granny's then came home and swam all afternoon. We had a BBQ dinner then played in the pool until everyone was a grape. Marshall's family came and the kids loved playing with their cousins.
Memorial Day was great fun. We spent the day with the entire Wade Seely clan. We went to the park near Michelle's house and played kick ball and baseball for 2 hours. We had pizza and ice cream. All the little boy cousins were all over the place playing very hard. by the time bed time rolled around everyone had had enough. We stayed the night in Lehi with Michelle, then got on the road early the next morning. I was anxious to get home and in the last hour of our drive I got a speeding ticket coming out of the mountains. Thankfully we arrived home safely and with enough time for Darryl to go to San Francisco and stay the night in preparation to begin the new job.
What fun and excitement it has been. We've said it many times, that this is the year of the changes. We anticipate more to come. Hopefully these changes will be for our good.
