August 2014

We are very excited to have a new little munchkin around our house. Jenna has been a delight and the kids are very glad to be big enough to play with her and help her.
I have spent the better part of the month at home recovering and helping the kids get ready for school.
For the first part of the month, Darryl's mom came to town to help with the kids while I recovered. We had fun hanging out at home playing games, going out on bikes, or jumping on the trampoline with a sprinkler underneath. The heat has been tremendous this summer, so the kids and Grandma have tried their best to beat the heat.
School began August 14th and Tanner started 3rd grade. His teacher is Ms. Morgan-Lopez. Parker started kindergarten and he is in Ms. Cornfield's class. Alyssa starts preschool after labor day, and Jenna sleeps. Tanner has taken off with reading this summer and has some favorite books. He likes the Percy Jackson series and Harry Potter. He will often be found up in his room reading in his big chair. Parker is so excited for big kid school. He and Tanner ride to school on their bikes with me. Parker is very creative and enjoys art projects, coloring and anything graphic. His goals for the year are to learn to read and have fun at recess.
Parker started soccer this month. He plays for the Franklin Club. He loves it. Practices have been hot!! Our summer has been so brutal, and unfortunately his practice is at 5 pm and that's when it's about 105 degrees. Luckily the boys are tough and we bring otter pops to help them cool down after playing hard and practicing. Parker played his first game against another Franklin club team. The boys did a great job. He ran hard and loved playing forward. All the kids are learning the game, so it's super fun to watch them figure out how to kick, run and score. We love going to his games each Saturday. The season lasts until November.
As the summer ends we wanted to have some fun. To celebrate the beginning of school we had a backyard cookout. We got a really good fire going in the grill then ate dinner and roasted marshmallows and made s'mores. The neighbor kids came over and after our cookout we made a bed on the trampoline and read stories then the neighbors went home and the kids slept out on the tramp. Alyssa made it until about 11 pm then came in, and Parker made it till about 5 am. Tanner was crashed out and comfortable all night. With the blazing heat our nights only get moderately cool, so they had it pretty good in the back yard.
Our good friends the Zyirek's were celebrating their daughter's birthday this month and we had a blast at her party. It was a snow white princess theme and Alyssa was so excited to dress up for the party. The kids played in the bounce house and we all ate many papusas. Parker and Alyssa loved getting face paint and all the kids took a turn hitting the pinata. We came home happy and tired. We sure love their family.
Our month ended with the Labor Day holiday weekend. We had a very fun Saturday with some bowling in the morning. Alyssa and I went to a birthday party for her cute friend Ellie. Then we played at the park in the afternoon. Darryl's parents were in town for the festivities and long weekend, so they joined us and we scheduled the baby blessing for Jenna in church on Sunday. The blessing went very well. It was a busy day getting the whole tribe up and dressed. Jenna wore the dress I was blessed in when I was a baby. It's a special treasure to have the dress that my mom made back in 1979. Darryl gave her a beautiful blessing and I was the interpreter for the deaf members attending our ward. It was extra nice to be able to really listen to what he had to say and feel the peace it brought. We hope she will be happy and loved all of her life.
