We arrived home from our long trip to Utah with exhaustion and gratitude to be home. Our first fun activity was on Sunday August 7th. The Valdez family blessed their new little son Oliver in our ward. He is all cheeks and rolls and he is wonderful.
Darryl had a new and fantastic opportunity to interview with Google in Mountain View. He had a phone interview while we were in Utah, then went in for a site interview to become the manager of the Legal Department. It was a very random but cool opportunity. A job offer didn't come our way, and in some ways we are really grateful because it would be really hard to turn down Google or really hard to uproot our family and move right back to the bay area. Either way it was awesome that Darryl has so many marketable skills and nice that others recognize his tremendous worth.
While Darryl was away for his interviews, I had a "Day of Fun" with the Young Women at church. It was our last big activity before school started again, so the girls planned lots of fun things. First we went up to a Laser Tag place and ate pizza and played 2 games of Laser Tag. I get pretty competitive! Then we bowled for an hour and played in the Arcade. After all of that excitement we came back to Elk Grove and played signs at Sis. Wood's house and ate yummy salad and dessert. After hours of games and food, the girls were exhausted and happy. We had a great time getting to know all of them better and have lots of fun.
The biggest news of the month is about Tanner. He is officially in Kindergarten at Helen Carr Castello elementary school. His teacher is Mrs. O'Neill and she is fun and cute and very experienced. She likes Tanner and he really gives her his game face. I think they will work it out. He is in a class of 24 students and has already made some friends. Hopefully he will be able to work hard and learn this year.Parker is excited for my undertaking with a couple of girls from our neighborhood. I have offered to help 2 girls with their homeschooling curriculum. They have agreed to come over Mon-Fri for 3 hours to work on reading, writing and math. Parker loves the idea because he gets to play with the girls and work on letters and coloring. Alyssa is a challenge, but luckily sleeps a lot so things might just go smoothly. So far the girls have come diligently and were able to earn their first field trip to the children's museum of Stockton. The museum has lots of hands on activities. The greatest for them was the fire truck with fireman gear to put on and the police motorcycle. Tanner loved the face painting as usual and they all put a puppet show together. I want these girls to succeed and they have the potential to do it.
We had our ward BBQ this month at Kloss Park. Our ward has been working on indexing names that are had written from census records or ship records to make the names available digitally. Our ward had a little competition among the auxiliaries and the Primary won. As a reward I made cupcakes for all of the Primary kids. I had fun making them cute and creating a stand to display them. The BBQ was lots of fun with games and good food and lots of people. Tanner liked the relay races, and Parker liked running around with the big kids.Tanner has shown a lot of promise in gymnastics and finally earned the opportunity to join the "Super Dudes" an all boys team of 5-6 year olds at Byers Gym. He didn't complain about going to class all summer and he got ready quickly for his weekly class, so I signed him up to be on the Super Dudes. He goes 2 times/week for 1.5 hours. It is amazing that he can get thru it, but he loves it. I think this could be the perfect sport for him.
As the president of the Young Womens group in our ward, I often have to juggle sooooo many things. Now that Super Dudes is underway, I have to pick up Tanner right before our activity night with the youth. It's a little crazy with Parker and Alyssa in tow. One night Tanner came with me to YW and we made cake pops. That's when you dip frozen balls of cake into melted chocolate then decorate the outside. They are delicious to eat at the end and Tanner had fun making them with the girls.It was a lovely and busy month!
