It was gorgeous this month! We had hot weather, but mild for this area. For the 4th of July holiday we went down to my favorite event on the central coast. The crazy fireworks on the beach. We went to San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay. Darryl arranged for us to stay in the Military housing and enjoy the festivities. We invited the Ryan family and the Robinson family.
On post we got 2 condos and a house. It was great fun to eat and play and hang out. Alyssa just slept the whole time. She was so happy to just sleep and eat. Tanner LOVED the beach. One day the boys rented boogie boards and wet suits and hit the waves. Tanner thought it was fantastic and he didn't want to get out of the water. It was funny to me because he wouldn't even touch the ocean water in Hawaii. Parker loved the beach and the sand. All the kids got together and made a huge pit. They climbed in and out of it and had a blast getting in a wet sand fight. They were a mess from head to toe and so happy about it. On the 4th we went to the parade in Morro Bay. It was so much fun. People on the floats were tossing out candy and the kids loved watching all of the craziness. Parker sat in his little chair the whole time just taking it all in. Alyssa slept thru it all. Our friends were in the parade as big blue fireworks, and little Abby Ryan and her cousin were on the float as the cutest little decorations. This was one of the most fun trips we've had.
Darryl went to annual training this month. He was also on the central coast for 2 weeks with his soldiers getting their weapons training and delivery training up to speed. He was really excited to work with the blackhawk helicopters on a mission to do some deliveries. They learned how to do load the giant pallets and then air lift them to a designated area.
While Darryl was away his mom came to town to help me with the little munchkins. She flew into town and I was incredibly relieved to have the help and the company. 3 kids has been such a huge change for our family. I need 8 arms to go in so many directions. Karen and I drove to Idaho with the kids. It was a very long drive with several stops and road construction. We made it in a day, but by the time we got there we were so done with the car.
In Idaho we had a nice visit. Darryl's brother Jared graduated from BYU Idaho with a degree in Information Systems. Many of the family members from Canada were in town and our family took up a whole row at the graduation. I was so shocked by the ceremony. The audience was asked not to clap for the graduates or the speakers. It felt a lot like church, even the music was comprised of all hymns. It was exciting to see Jared receive his degree, it's awesome that he's done.
Darryl flew in to Utah on Sunday just in time for the blessing of our sweet Alyssa and her cousin Anneliese. Jared and his wife Rebekah had a baby one week after we did, so we planned a family baby blessing event in Farmington, Utah while all the family could be together in July. It was wonderful to have so many people there to celebrate with us. Darryl conducted the meeting and fantastic family members were so willing to help with the music and food. The blessings were sweet and the girls were so cute in their white dresses. After the meeting we had some dinner and enjoyed each other's company for the evening.
On Monday we went from Farmington to Midway. Darryl's aunt Arlene rented a house for the week so all of the family could visit for the week of the family reunion. We stayed for 2 days and had lots of fun visiting Cascade Springs and hiking with the cousins. We went to an indoor aquatic center and Parker couldn't get enough of having goggles. All the cousins were little fish. I loved going walking with Bekah and getting some exercise. We took the kids to the pool and the park. We got ice cream and had a BBQ. It was loads of fun.
Our Hartley family reunion also happened this month. On July 28-30 we got together at Brad's house for some fun. One day we went to aquatic center. All the kids had a blast with the water slides, spray grounds, and diving boards. All of the kids were exhausted after a day at the pool, so it was nice to be able to come back, relax and watch movies in the evening. We also did a very merry un-birthday party for all of the cousins. Since all of our kids don't get to be with their cousins for their birthdays, we had a party to celebrate all the birthdays. We had a circus theme with face painting (artistically created by Papa), balloon animals (masterfully created by Marshall, Destenee and Google), Clown noses (put together with Nana), and cake that could suit all of the allergies (beautifully made by Meredith). At the end all of the kids opened a gift of a water gun and we ended the party with a big water fight. We had a good time.
When all of the festivities ended, we headed home to California and some much needed sleep in our own beds.
